What changed in 2026

For years Georgia's program was one of the most restrictive in the country, with a 5% THC cap and "severe or end stage" requirements on many conditions. The Putting Georgia Patients First Act (signed 2026) renames the program to a medical cannabis patient registry, adds conditions such as lupus, severe arthritis, and severe insomnia, removes the "severe or end stage" qualifier from several diagnoses, replaces the 5% THC cap with a 12,000 mg total-THC limit, and authorizes vaporization for patients 21 and older (phasing in by January 1, 2027).

Did Georgia add new qualifying conditions in 2026?

Yes. The 2026 Putting Georgia Patients First Act expanded the program - adding conditions such as lupus, severe arthritis, and severe insomnia, and removing the severe or end stage requirement from several existing conditions.

Does intractable pain qualify in Georgia?

Yes. Intractable pain is on Georgia's list, and PTSD qualifies for patients 18 and older. A Georgia-licensed physician must confirm your condition for the DPH registry.
